Knit Italia 2020: here's what we saw in the all-Italian kermesse on the shirt!

Although late compared to the event / market exhibition that was held from 11 to 13 September last in the setting of the Fuligno School in Florence, we want to briefly tell you what we saw and learned in those splendid sunny days!

Firenze sulla giusta strada!

Da Dove Vieni?

The visit to the event was full of surprises and emotions despite being short because we wanted to take advantage of the weekend and visit once again one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in Italy.

Panorama di Firenze dall'alto

For this reason we had to make an a priori choice among the many training proposals of the designers present and visit the exhibition market with the possibility of discovering and seeing interesting realities of the Italian art and craft scene live.

Among the many proposals on the calendar, our choice immediately fell on the opportunity to get to know a technique that we are sure is one of the milestones on which to support the evolutionary growth of the knitter: we are talking about the Ziggurats technique by Asa Ticosa with the course held by Alice Twain.

The top down construction with the Ziggurat technique is a unique and particular method to make a perfect and tailored sweater or cardigan.
During the meeting, we were able to set the model: Simple ziggurat (link raverly): https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/simple-ziggurat) and discover that this technique allows, in the top down construction, the realization of the round sleeve with a perfect fit and without ever breaking the thread!

To the practical notions we have received, we add the precious Ziggurats Manual by Åsa Tricosa, which we will talk about in detail as soon as possible!

La Mostra mercato, porticato

We would like to tell you that if you have not participated in this edition, carefully follow the blog of the association https://knitviktim.org and do not miss the next edition!

Among the exhibitors and artisans who presented their creations and stimulated our curiosity and appreciation, we want to tell you about Tiziana - Wooly Tizy - an artist of color.
He presented us with some of his productions and so we took the opportunity to know and understand more how the passion for true Made in Italy is born.

-"Tiziana, tell us about you and your passion!"

-"My name is Tiziana and I live in a beautiful valley of Primiero, in Trentino.
Since I was a child I have always had a passion for colors, animals, nature and mountains, I grew up wearing handmade clothes by my mother who invented them from time to time for both me and my sister.
I love natural fibers and for some years the desire to learn to know them and work them has become increasingly greater, the curiosity and the desire to know how to do as well as study have led me to try my hand at every stage of processing the wool supply chain, from the selection of the greasy fleece to the realization of the finished garment.
So I started taking courses, wool sorting, spindle spinning, spinning with the wheel, natural dyeing, vat dyeing, ecoprint, knitting techniques and garment design in Italy and abroad, I had the lucky enough to also attend an intensive full immersion course on noble fibers for a month in Biella. And then I put it into practice, trying to make every technique my own with great satisfaction. Having natural fibers in my hands is part of my daily life, of my free time and has led me to travel and meet special people.

Tiziana di WollyTizy

My "dyeing business" was born to support my passion for natural fibers and to allow me both to follow courses for my training and to always try new fibers and yarns, currently at a hobby level, as my main profession is that of engineer .
I dye in a "free" way according to what inspires me at the moment and I create custom kits or colors on request. To this end, I mainly use dyes "acid dyes" created specifically for animal fibers that are completely absorbed by the fibers, leaving a transparent water at the end of the dyeing process, which I can reuse over and over again, minimizing consumption. I dye mostly with this mulesing free merino wool technique and the beautiful brogna of Lessinia. For me, skeins are like canvases to be painted, and water in the dyeing process is my greatest ally, it gives movement to the colors, it helps me to create special effects. I dye animal fibers, which are the ones I love and use the most. Seeing my yarns transformed by other hands into special projects gives me true satisfaction and sincere happiness.
When my work commitments allow me, I experiment with new dyeing techniques, blends and natural pigments, the colors that I feel most mine. I design my yarns and thread them by hand, mixing the fibers as I prefer, making unique yarns. For me, those mostly organic and local yarns that I buy in my travels
I dream one day of designing my own line of yarns: WoolyTizy!
