A highly sustainable project for quality Merino wool.

The theme of sustainability and environmental protection is also increasingly present in textile companies, which are committed to making yarns with a sustainable impact, with ethical production and aimed at obtaining important product quality certifications, respecting the territory, animals and workers.
With this project, Laines du Nord is taking a further step forward, producing a wool from the "0 Km Chain" from the sheep to the ball.

The Merino Gentile breed of sheep has ancient Italian origins and is reared in southern Italy, specifically in an area between Puglia, Molise and Abruzzo.

The area is close to the Tratturo Magno or Regio Tratturo that runs from L'Aquila to Foggia, which was the ancient transhumance route for the flocks of the empire of the two Sicilies and the Papal States.

The Gentile di Puglia sheep provides a fleece with exclusive characteristics of exceptional fineness, which makes it possible to produce a wool of superior quality compared to other Merino breeds, which are more suitable for meat and milk production.

Specifically, thanks to the direct involvement of the breeders, it is possible to certify the origin and traceability of the entire wool chain: from harvesting, sorting and selection, to transformation into worsted.

The result is a production of wool and/or woollen yarns of the highest strictly controlled quality standard.

The strength of the Italian Merino Gentile fibre, its fineness and anti-pilling effect distinguish it.

We invite you to discover these yarns with their unique characteristics, which deserve to be enhanced with creations that exalt their uniqueness.
